Santiago de Cuba
Santiago de Cuba is a beautiful resort which is called the hottest resort in the country. It is the second biggest city in the Cuba and lullaby of Cuban revolution. It is a unique city in Cuba which was awarded statue of a hero. Santiago de Cuba is located on the south-east of the island. It has a population of 494 thousands people (by 2004). It is founded in 1514. Until 1556 it was the capital of Cuba.
Santiago de Cuba is famous in the entire world by its enchanting beauty of nature, warm sea, beautiful sand beaches, and exotic plants. There are sun shining cities with old and new buildings. But what really worth to see are beautiful carnivals. Usually they start's in July and continue until September. They are particularly colorful and musical.
In Santiago there is a subtropical climate, with gentle northeasterly trade winds. The season of rains is continuing from May to October, dry winter season continuous from November to April. The average temperature in June and August reaches from 27.5'C to 22.2'C. The rest in Santiago de Cuba lasts for entire year.
There is a fortress in the bay called San-Piedro-de-la-Roca-de-li-Morra. Now it is the station of Cuba railway station. On 26 July 1953 Fidelio Castro with a group of revolutionaries attacked quarters of Monacada to capture the arsenal. Since then he started to struggle with Batista.
There are many interesting museums in the city. Among them there are such famous as: ethnographic museum situated in old village La- Isabelica. Also there is a palace of the first conquistador. The Palace of Diego Valascesa de Cueliar, built in 1516 till 1520 (museum of colonial art). More over there is municipal museum named by the Emilio Bacardi. And also historical museum situated in famous baroque Monkad. Museum - homestead Siboneil (museum where Castor's revolutionaries gathered in 1953). And also we suggest you to visit the museum of national history.
By the way there is a fortress San-Piedro-De-La-Roka which is included in the UNESCO world heritage list. As the places where you can spend you free time are two famous theaters, picturesque city cathedral, university and lots of cinemas.
Exciting excursions, street concerts, bizarre festivals, and local dish- all this draws crowds of travelers, around the entire world.
